.002 - Little More Crafty

Here is a little bit more of a crafty entry.  Hopefully more art stuff will be placed up soon.  I made many different types of things.  I crochet and knit, along with practically every style of art.  The only thing I can think of that I haven't done yet is metal work, and I'll soon have a class in the at school.  I love to try new things, so I'm sorry if that annoys you.

I made these for my best friend.  They are fingerless gloves, it has a thumb hole on each glove to secure them in place along with 3 brass buttons on each glove.  They are my school colours.

My friend Trevor wanted a gray and dark red scarf for Christmas so I made this.  It came out exactly like what he wanted.  It is crocheted.

I also this month bought a few neck ties from the local Goodwill, I came up a Card/ID holder.  For just a few dollars this was a great craft.

.001 - 1st Commission & Monsters

A few months back I was commissioned to paint a mailbox.  Within the past week they picked it up, making me $65 richer (excluding the $20 for supplies)  Both sides are exactly the same painted in acrylic paint.  (Each side includes a woodland cabin with a hammer and anvil in the front yard)  The main focus of the design was what the costumer ordered then modified to make a better composition.  This photo was taken before the sealer had been placed on.

Early December I came across Stefan G. Bucher.  He is 35 years old based in California.  He is known for his "Daily Monsters" and other such ink drawings.  Many of his works can be found on YouTube.  Inspired by his work I created a series of my own monsters.  Here are just 2 of my 5 full drawings.  (I was not able to scan in the last 3 as of yet)

The Igloo Iguana?  Not something you'd hear everyday, nor something you'd even think about.  I call myself "The Igloo Iguana" to express my love of travel, my open mind, and my enjoyment of diversity.

I have traveled to England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and Ecuador/Galapagos.  I live on the east coast of the united states.  From my early childhood my parents always encouraged travel, showing me that it isn't the place you end up that is important, but how you get there and what you have learned along the way.  There are so many things to see in this world that everyone seems to miss.

My parents also taught me to keep an open mind; you never really know what you might find in those unexpected places.

My high-school held over 2400 students.  I graduated in May 2008, my school was known throughout the state for its fine academics (One of the top public schools in the nation) and its wide range of students.  We had such a diversity at my school that clicks were not formed as easily and most everyone got along with everyone else.  At the age of 7 I had been begging my parents for a brother for about 7 years.  There was nothing in the world I wanted more then a sibling, a sister was okay... but I REALLY wanted a brother.  At 7 my wish came true, we flew up to Nebraska and adopted a multi-racial little baby boy (Sioux Native American, Caucasian, and Black).  I love my brother more then anything else in this world, I'm not sure what I would do without him.

Its hard to explain how all this goes with my name, but let me try to explain it quickly.
Iguanas and Igloos comes from very different parts of the world; this describes my connections with the world because of my travel and what I have learned  through my experiences.  It also represents my open mind by showing that unexpected things can be great.  And through these differences I find diversity, not only limited to the name, but in my everyday life.

--------------------------------------------

Hold on tight, you're in for a world full of art & other explorations of the imagination. Igloo Iguana was created in purpose to display my art (painting, drawing, printing, sculpture...etc.) and my crafts (sewing, crochet/knitting ...etc.) I have a wide range of mediums I use to express myself. Have fun!
